tiny victorian cottage

Tiny Victorian Cottage [via The New York Times "Home&Garden"]

The most adorable little victorian cottage ever. Sandra Foster turned a Catskills hunting cabin into the romantic Victorian cottage she had always wanted, using vintage columns, flooring and wavy glass windows, and doing the carpentry herself. This cottage is only accessible via a stone crossing over a stream.

Wow… so lovely. Those books above the closet… that mystic access through the hidden stone crossing. Never thought I’ll be that sentimental. But, hey – it’s great. Cheers.

  • 20/08/2010 at 3:25 pm Katie

when i first saw this i thought it was so adorable and i want to live there.. and then as i looked through the rest of the pictures and read i began to think how horrifying this place looks to stay over night. it looks like the scene of a scary movie. i would be too afraid of an axe murderer preying on me.

Small houses are totally in style right now. Working with a really small space allows you to focus on perfecting it and not struggling to fill it up. It’s like a little nest. Nice work on an awesome post.

Seeing a number your posts I truly found this particular one to generally be really good. I’ve got a blog site also and wish to repost a few snips of your articles on my own blog site. Would it be alright if I do that as long I reference your webblog or generate a back-link to your article I procured the snip from? Otherwise I understand and would never do it without having your approval . I have book marked this valuable posting to twitter and myspace account for reference. Anyhow thanks either way!

I LOVE this! I’ve seen other cottages similar in size to this–there’s a company that makes them. I think the company is Tiny Houses or something like that. Love how she decorated the interior. But I have a question: How does she reach the bookshelves over the sofa? She must have a ladder hidden somewhere.

It is like a cozy little nest! I would probably take the color scheme from white to something a little less pristine. When your only access is over a stream and I’m guessing there’s no washing machine, that’s laundry you don’t want to have to do every time it gets a little muddy outside. I love the book shelf, though. Seems like the perfect place to spent a peaceful night!

    Hi Sharona,

I tried to email you, but the account had been disabled.

I found your post about the Victorian cabin in the Catskills via a pin on Pinterest, and I had to post about it on my own blog!

So, if you are interested, here is the link: http://mylifetintedpink.blogspot.com/2012/04/mountain-dollhouse.html

I positively loved the cabin sooo much! I almost instantly wanted to be transported to that cove in the mountain!

    Sincerely,

    Kirsten

I love it! Wouldn’t it be fun to spend time in this feminine little cottage. I would lounge and read, walk through the woods and along the streams, and on rainy days, listen to the raindrops tapping on the roof. I’m in wonderland, I think! LOL

I found you on Pinterest and I fell in love with this little place. It will be my inspiration for a little home. I am retired and this would be perfect for me. I just got my business license and I am opening a small Hemp jewelry site on Facebook. Sharon Marie Ellis, Simply M.E. and I could live in a place like this one and make jewelry for the rest of my life. Thank you for such a wonderful dream home idea.

I like the house. So cozy, but I do believe the interior decor is horrendous. I see the connection with doll houses, but I’m reminded of casket when I see this. I guess this little doll house would be the tomb of some old dying grandma.
