tiny victorian cottage
Tiny Victorian Cottage [via The New York Times "Home&Garden"]
The most adorable little victorian cottage ever. Sandra Foster turned a Catskills hunting cabin into the romantic Victorian cottage she had always wanted, using vintage columns, flooring and wavy glass windows, and doing the carpentry herself. This cottage is only accessible via a stone crossing over a stream.

gorgeous! can I have one??
I’m in love with this place. It’s unreal…
That is the most gorgeous little thing I have seen–it seems like it would be the perfect getaway.
Wow… so lovely. Those books above the closet… that mystic access through the hidden stone crossing. Never thought I’ll be that sentimental. But, hey – it’s great. Cheers.
So awesome! I would love to have this in my backyard. It just wont be in the middle of a forest as much as in the middle of a city. but so what. this is so beautiful!! ^_^
woaaahh way too tiny
when i first saw this i thought it was so adorable and i want to live there.. and then as i looked through the rest of the pictures and read i began to think how horrifying this place looks to stay over night. it looks like the scene of a scary movie. i would be too afraid of an axe murderer preying on me.
Fantastic blog! it’s so inspirational and looking at the pics make you feeling cheerful and in peaceful:-)
Great post!
Oh, this is so cute!

My first thought was “WANT,” but then I realized… how would you get to the bookshelves in that triangular space above the main room? Is there a ladder behind the fireplace I can’t see from this angle?
It’s so beautiful. Perfect for Valentines.
Check also Casa da Oliveira in http://www.quinta-cadafaz.com. Not victorian at all but still very romantic.
You got fantastic nice ideas there. I made a research on the topic and got most peoples will agree with your blog.

Strictly for the fairies……. but not this one.
I thought about Cinderella. This is much suitable for her than the palace. Tastful and stylish!
This is so charming! I would love to have a place like this, even if it is ever so small, it is beautiful. :)
So beautiful!!!! Kudos for her doing her own carpentry, looks like she did an amazing job :)

My spouse and I absolutely love your blog and find nearly all of your post’s to be what precisely I’m looking for. Do you offer guest writers to write content for you personally? i love victoriana, but i think this place went overboard. i think it needs to lighten up and be made more breezy. or, at least, i wd like it better that way. i dont think i cd breathe in that bedroom.
This is the cutest thing I think I have EVER seen. I absolutely LOVE it! Can I go there now please?

What a dream home.

amazing blog layout! How long have you been blogging for?

This cottage is so atmospheric
nice little get away! :D
In the tradition of the English folly… and quite practical. Lovely work.
so tiny yet so exquisite !!!
wheres the loo? (the stream?)
It looks like a lovely art piece. Beautiful pictures. But I think hanging out in there would be a little scarey. A lovely job anyway.
This is amazing. Where is it? I like how books are stacked up to the roof, using every inch of the house.
good luck keeping it clean
very tiny…but perfect for a cup of tea with your friends…
Cool, love this
I think it’s better if you walk through stream than the stone :D, cool…
Wow, I guess you had to physically carry all of that stuff in there? Across the stream and up the hill? Paint, wood, windows, nails, ……does it have electricity? Hand tools, unless there is electricity, which means you carried power tools? Then all the books, fabric, chandelier, dishes? OMG.But beautiful it is:)

Wow, that is a crazy little house! Very cool! Does she actually live there, or does she just use it as a seasonal getaway (like Thoreau did at Walden)? Great post!
cool job………!! :)
Woah! Waaaaaaay to small…..but nifty…I think I’d be kinda scared in THAT house!
Simply charming and beautiful. I would love to see the pictures before the transformation. My daughter would love something like this and my wife would make me sleep there. Great job. I keep waiting to see Sleeping Beauty lounging in there.
As I viewed this my mind flooded with adjectives however not one could I speak or write that would do it justice. So much more than breatakingly beautiful
I LOVE this! I’ve seen other cottages similar in size to this–there’s a company that makes them. I think the company is Tiny Houses or something like that. Love how she decorated the interior. But I have a question: How does she reach the bookshelves over the sofa? She must have a ladder hidden somewhere.
Awesome cottage with excellent design of home furnishing.
wow. absolutely beautiful. where is it located? i want to visit!!!
The bedroom. Beautiful. X

The cottage is achingly beautiful and full of magic…like something in a fairy dream. It inspires me!
i love love love this lil cottage — would you ever consider letting me take pictures of my daughter there — it is just so beautiful!!
I want it all… Now! xx
Amazing, Beautiful….wordless
Ooooo love it! Very “the tree house I always wanted” only on the ground and across a river!
Very amazing … looks like a elfcastle.
I love this. This would be a great place for a fairy themed photo shoot.
A perfect little doll house for big girls! I love it!!!
OK I would have left this comment earlier but I was passed out on the floor from the CUTE-NESS!
I WANT one!
GREAT job!
Violette
It is like a cozy little nest! I would probably take the color scheme from white to something a little less pristine. When your only access is over a stream and I’m guessing there’s no washing machine, that’s laundry you don’t want to have to do every time it gets a little muddy outside. I love the book shelf, though. Seems like the perfect place to spent a peaceful night!
Ridiculous!
Beautiful!!!
Absolutely Beautiful!!!!!!! I wish I had a wonderful place such as this to hang out.
Wow, so beautiful!!!
I actually remember seeing this cottage once before on one of the talk shows. It was amazing how this little cottage turned out.. good for you on your little retreat!
Amazing! Love this Victorian cottage!
Very stylish blog. Kudos.
love your blog! jean !!!
